Houstrup is a delightful area in peaceful surroundings right next to the attractive Blåbjerg dune plantation, a large protected nature area with magnificent dunes, blue lakes, heather-covered areas and varying forest, where you can explore, pick berries, mushrooms and plants, or simply experience nature at “close quarters”. Blåbjerg dune plantation is the ideal destination for an outing if you would like to walk, cycle or ride on horseback in this beautiful area.

Blåbjerg, Denmark’s highest dune, lies in the middle of Blåbjerg dune plantation, 64 metres above sea level. Blåbjerg used to be used as a navigation mark because it is very clearly visible from the sea. There is an impressive view from the top, where is it possible to see a large area of south-western Jutland. It is said to be possible to see 40 church towers in clear weather. Blåbjerg dune plantation covers 4600 hectares, over half of which is planted. The area was planted at the end of the 1800s to slow down the shifting sands which were ruining the cultivated soil and burying the houses in the area.

Just a few kilometres from Houstrup you will find the long white sandy beach which is ideal for swimming, walking and kite flying.
